You Are Not Losing it: You are likely in Perimenopause

In my years as a generalist OB/GYN, I cared for countless women in their 40s who came in feeling overwhelmed, confused, or frustrated by symptoms they couldn’t explain. Long before I had a name for it, these women became the heart of my practice.

They described periods that suddenly became heavier, more painful, or wildly irregular. Some started to have hot flashes before complete cessation of menses. Many noticed intense mood swings, especially the week before their period. Moms often told me, “I don’t recognize myself,” as irritability with their kids or partners spiked. Others shared feelings of anxiety, overwhelm, sadness, or a sense that their emotional resilience had vanished. And nearly every day, I heard about unintentional weight gain and how much harder it had become to lose weight.

Before I fully understood perimenopause, I simply did my best with the tools I had. But it became clear that something bigger was happening. These patterns weren’t random.

Here’s the truth: perimenopause is one of the most misunderstood stages of a woman’s life, especially among physicians. The symptoms vary so widely that it’s easy for them to be dismissed, misdiagnosed, or rushed through in a wellness exam. Yet one theme was consistent: women didn’t feel like themselves, and they were desperate for answers.

So before starting birth control for “new PMS in your 40s,” let’s pause and talk. There may be better solutions, and they should be tailored specifically to you.

At The WoMn Clinic, perimenopause care is individualized, whole-person care.
There are no one-size-fits-all plans here. You deserve someone who listens, understands this transition, and guides you with evidence-based options.

Life can feel better. And I’m here to help you navigate that change with clarity, compassion, and real answers.
